Corporate HR

Yon

Yon is definitely not your typical HR and she has a great sense of humor!

Q:

BNSS is your first gaming company, how do you feel about it?

A:

To be honest, I have a bit of culture shock!  *laugh* I’m very used to corporate wear but on my first day, I saw many of my colleagues here in shorts and tees including the Managing Director! This is not a usual sight for me!

I feel that the people in gaming industry are very nice and less aggressive in a way. They have a lot of passion and knowing what they want to do.

Most of them are very shy people but very helpful! It is very different from the corporate environment I was in for the past 5 – 6 years. Our people are very hands-on and always thinking of how to improve their skills and knowledge which I think its heart-warming sight and you will be motivated by them as well.

Q:

Coincidentally it’s also your first Japanese company, any different as compared to your previous companies?

A:

Yes, BNSS is the first Japanese company I joined and it’s nothing like what my friends described. I’ve the stereotype thinking that Japanese Companies have a lot of rules and regulations. Like you need to be at work at least 15 minutes earlier, no lateness, and you cannot leave earlier than your boss etc, but guess what? It’s the first company I’m with that has flexible working hours! And things are pretty flexible here and seems like the management has been localised! I don’t speak nor understand Japanese as we are very much conversing in English! Oh ya! IT IS DEFINITELY OK to leave earlier than your boss. :) It is pretty much the same as my previous companies just that in BNSS we have more flexibility which is surprising. And in BNSS we have longer holiday during Christmas and Chinese New Year!

Q:

How was the experiences like?

A:

I don’t play much games but it’s indeed an eye-opener for me! Like before I join, I don’t even know what is a first person shooter and 3rd person shooter about. I get to learn and understand the game development and how things work! I can feel the passion that our people have when comes to games. I am very certain that I am not cut to be an artist when I see their drawings and the talents that they have! Before I was in game industry, to me game designer and artist are doing similar tasks but in fact they are different roles! It’s a very challenge industry but fun and exciting!

Q:

Any advice for people who is keen to join gaming industry?

A:

Just do it!

Q:

One thing you like about BNSS.

A:

Definitely the people in my company. They are a bunch of fun loving people that I enjoyed working with! To be honest, I feel that we are more like friends than colleagues and that helps a lot!
