Hello, trust me, I'm an engineer!
Although it has only been a few months, but I have learnt many new things while working on my assigned tasks. My team has been very supportive and helpful.
I enjoy being able to learn while working on code for the various console platforms. As far as I know, not many game companies in Singapore do development on console platforms so I feel this is a very valuable opportunity.
Although we are not able to meet nor work together physically, but that doesn’t stop us from communicating or sharing information with each other within the company.
We have a chat group on Microsoft Teams where we can communicate and ask each other questions. There are also channels for us to post information for sharing or to request for help from other teams or HQ. In addition, we have regular video conferences and if help is needed for troubleshooting or to explain anything in detail, voice calls can be made as and when it is required.
If you are referring to the typical impression people have of the working culture and environment in Japanese companies, I do not think it exist here. Maybe because we are working from home now so I do not really feel it but it seems very much like any other local company in Singapore and I believe the company advocates work-life balance. As a software engineer, it is quite common to be working overtime to meet deadlines and deliverables but at least till now, this is actually the first company I am in where I do not have to work overtime almost every day.
I start off the day by checking and responding to emails and any new posts on Microsoft Teams. Next I will check on the things I need to do before continuing to work on my assigned tasks.
I usually try to end my day with code that can be compiled without errors or to at least avoid leaving incomplete implementations of anything I started doing on that day but if it is unavoidable, I will keep a note on the incomplete tasks that I can refer to it when I continue the work the next day.
From the very first interaction with BNSS during my interview till now, the people here have been very friendly. I think they are great to work with regardless of their rank or position. I am considered a junior member of the team and in terms of experience too, but I do not feel that I am being treated with any less respect or that my opinions are ignored.
